Recipe of the Week - Chocolate Berry Almond Smoothie

Recently we purchased a Vitamix blender and we LOVE it!  I make everything from smoothies to soups, to dips and everything in between.  I use it daily.  It was an investment but it was well worth it.  It's wonderful for homemade hummus, mashed cauliflower and I even prepare my own flours and nut butters.

Today, I'd like to share one of my favorite "dessert" smoothies - Chocolate Berry Almond Smoothie.  It's creamy and chocolatey!  It also sneaks in some veggies and packs a protein punch with the addition of almond butter.  It really is a full meal in itself.  Who could ask for anything more?

I love using raw cacao in my recipes instead of cocoa powder but either can be used.  I like raw cacao because of the health benefits which are:

  • Magnesium, and other essential minerals such as calcium, sulfur, zinc, iron, copper, potassium, and manganese.
  • Polyphenols, antioxidant rich flavonoids.
  • Vitamins: B1, B2, B3, B5, B9, C, E.

This recipe can be made in any blender so don't be afriad if you don't have a high powered blender.  It will still be delicious.

Chocolate Berry Almond Smoothie

2-3 servings

2-3 dates, pitted and chopped (and soaked in water for 30 minutes if not using a high-speed blender)

2-3 cups frozen berries (I love raspberries and cherries)

2 cups packed spinach

1 1/2 cups almond milk (unsweetened)

2 Tbsp almond butter

1 Tbsp cacao powder (or 2 tbsp cocoa powder)

Mix everything in a blender until smooth and creamy.  Enjoy!
